Buffalo, NY – Buffalo school officials detailed proposals Tuesday to close two schools and enact other cost-cutting measures.
School 51, the Black Rock Academy on Hertel Avenue, and School 57 on Swinburne Street would close next year, forcing the transfer of some 900 students.
The district also plans to consolidate its three Olmsted schools into two.
Further closings are expected as the district tries to deal with a budget deficit now estimated to be approaching $65 million.
