Buffalo, NY – The NHL Board of Governors was briefed Monday on the proposed sale of the Buffalo Sabres during the opening session of their two-day meeting in Arizona.
The NHL last month conditionally selected Buffalo businessman Mark Hamister and partner Todd Berman to acquire the franchise. But Hamister is reportedly seeking financial assistance from New York state, Erie County and Buffalo.
Hamister is not saying how much aid he is seeking. Initial reports say it was as high as $35 million. But Tuesday's Buffalo News cites one insider who says it's much less.
Meanwhile, some NHL owners are apparently concerned the price that Hamister is offering for the Sabres -- $65 million US -- could devalue their franchises.
