Buffalo, NY – For years many East Side residents have complained that their neighborhood lacks a major grocery chain.
But construction is now underway for a new Tops Markets on Jefferson Avenue at Landon.
Michele Boyd said residents will no longer be forced to travel by bus in search of buy fresh produce and products.
"For those people who live in the area, don't drive and don't have a car, carrying their groceries on the bus is kind of awkward, so this market is a blessing.
Tops officials said the new store is expected to open by mid-June and will create 140 new jobs.
Mayor Anthony Masiello said the new Tops will continue to spur redevelopment in the Jefferson-Utica business district that incudes the Apollo Theater, the Buffalo media Center and the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Center's Small Business Resource Center.
