More Casino Debate, Falls Site Draws 6,000 Applications

By Mark Wozniak and Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Another casino gambling forum was held at the Buffalo Museum of Science Monday. The meeting featured input from both supporters and opponents of a downtown Buffalo casino.

Supporters say the deal will create jobs and boost the economy by as much as $200 million a year. But opponents criticized the secret deal between the state and the Seneca Nation of Indians and Mayor Masiello's support of it.

Officials of the Niagara Falls casino, meanwhile, say they've received 6,000 applications from people interested in one of the 2,000 expected jobs the casino will provide. About 300 of the applications have come from members of the Seneca Nation.

So far, 80 employees have been hired.
