Arcara Approves Shift of Couple's Prosecution

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – A New York City couple accused of aiding James Kopp will be prosecuted in Brooklyn instead of Buffalo.

Federal judge Richard Arcara Thursday agreed to a government request to dismiss a six-count indictment charging Dennis Malvasi and Loretta Marra with obstruction of justice and other charges.

Prosecutors have instead filed a criminal complaint in Brooklyn's federal court charging the couple with a single count of conspiring to harbor a fugitive.

Kopp was captured in France last year and is charged with killing abortion provider Doctor Barnett Slepian at his Amherst home.
