Former Senator Bob Dole
Former Senator Bob Dole

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole delivers the keynote address at a health care forum in Buffalo Thursday. WBFO reached Dole by phone at his Washington office to talk about the forum, his life after the Senate and a potential war with Iraq.

The forum's theme is "The Heartbeat of Buffalo: Collaborating for a Healthier Community." Sponsored in part by the Independent Health Foundation and UB's School of Management, the forum will explore cardiovascular health and the value of collaboration between among doctors, hospitals and insurers.

For his part, Dole says he'll defer to the medical experts to address the high incidence of coronary heart disease in Buffalo. He says he'll discuss issues of leadership and the role of Congress in setting health care policy in the nation.

Dole says he's also monitoring the ongoing congressional debate on a resolution authorizing President Bush to attack Iraq.
