Music Notes: Ramsi Tick Concert Series Profile

Eighth Blackbird
Eighth Blackbird

Bill Raffel presents a preview of an all-or-none local concert series.By Bill Raffel, WBFO

Buffalo, NY – It's all or nothing with a local performing arts organization. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

The Academy of Ancient Music is one of the groups the Ramsi P. Tick Concert Series will bring to town, as part of a package priced at 150 dollars. That amount actually gets you into three concerts at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. And the only way to see one concert is to buy all five.

The series is named in honor of the former QRS Music President, who had this vision for a concert series around the time of his death. UB Concert Manager Phil Rehard and other volunteers then took on the project themselves. And Phil says the season subscriptions make the concerts financially feasible.

So if you'd like to see Soprano Latonia Moore and the other artists at the Ramsi P. Tick concert series, you'd better stop by your ATM on the way to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Tuesday (9/24) at 8:15?p.m. And thanks to Phil Rehard for joining us on Music Notes.

Also this week, the contemporary music ensemble Eighth Blackbird performs Saturday (9/28) at 8?p.m. in Slee Hall on the North Campus. On Friday (9/27) at 2?p.m., the musicians will rehearse and critique the music of UB Graduate Students in the Baird Recital Hall.

Two saxophone quartets are giving concerts. The Amherst Saxophone Quartet opens its 25th season Friday (9/27) at 7:30?p.m. in Westminster Presbyterian Church at the corner of Delaware and Summer, while the DaCapo Saxophone Quartet performs Sunday (9/29) at 7?p.m. in Central Park United Methodist Church on Beard Ave.

University Presbyterian Church dedicates its new pipe organ with a recital by Peter Davis Sunday (9/29) at 4?p.m. The church is located at the corner of Main Street and Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Arlo Guthrie joins the Buffalo Philharmonic for a pops concert Friday (9/27) at 7:30?p.m. and Saturday (9/28) at 8?p.m. in Kleinhans Music Hall.
