New York City, NY – U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is endorsing state Comptroller H. Carl McCall's bid for the Democratic nomination for governor.
McCall is battling former federal housing secretary Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Governor Pataki's bid for a third term in November.
An advisory distributed by the McCall campaign says the Schumer endorsement was scheduled to be made at a noon news conference Monday on the steps of New York's City Hall.
A Schumer aide confirmed the endorsement plan.
Independent polls have shown Cuomo, the elder son of former Governor Mario Cuomo, leading McCall in the race for the Democratic nomination. The polls show Pataki leading both the Democrats by 2-to-1 margins.
