Two Pit Bulls Maul Girl, Owner Arrested

Buffalo, NY – Police arrested the owner of two pit bulls who mauled a 14-year-old girl in Buffalo's Houghton Park Monday.

Police say at least two good Samaritans put themselves in jeopardy to rescue the girl, who is being treated at Children's Hospital.

Witnesses say two pit bulls attacked Kenyatta Owens as she walked through the park to her summer job at the pool.

George Snider, a college student working inside the nearby Houghton Academy, heard Kenyatta screaming and rushed outside to help. Snyder and Carmello Mendez, who was working at a nearby mechanics shop, helped fend off the dogs by beating them with sticks.

Owner Susan Kostrzewa was arraigned on charges of second degree assault and reckless endangerment.
