DEC to Monitor Lake Botulism

Albany, NY – The state Department of Environmental Conservation is monitoring an outbreak of Type E botulism in wildlife along the Lake Erie shoreline.

In the past two weeks, thousands of small aquatic wildlife and some gulls have washed ashore from Pennsylvannia to Erie County.

Last fall, Type E botulism was blamed for the death of several thousand water birds that washed up along the Lake Erie shore.
