Buffalo, NY – Because of Buffalo's industrial past, there are plenty of so-called vacant "brownfields" in the area. But not many have been redeveloped for use by new businesses.
There are many reasons why developers avoid brownfields. Various sites may still have some toxic contamination and there are valid concerns about the liability a new business would face by locating on the land. On Friday, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership will explore some of the obstacles preventing brownfield redevelopment. Michael Leydecker is with the Brownfield Council of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. Click the "listen" icon above to hear Mark Scott's interview with Leydecker.
