Buffalo Selected as a Top Ten City for the Arts

Buffalo, NY – The city of Buffalo has been named one of the top ten cities for art by an arts magazine.

Buffalo finished in ninth place in American Style magazine's Top 25 cities, as voted on by readers. New York City was in first place. Buffalo, in ninth, was just after eight-place Boston and ahead of tenth-place Philadelphia.

The magazine's editors describe Buffalo "as a new and surprisingly strong contender."

"I think this is one of the best things that has happened to the city of Buffalo because it puts us on the map," Joanna Angie, director of the Buffalo Arts Studio. "This is something Buffalo should feel really good about. We need to brag about the amazing things we have here."

The Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau led the effort to elevate Buffalo's profile as a serious arts community by asking local art lovers and civic boosters to cast a vote for Buffalo.

"Buffalo has long been known as a regional center for the arts," said CVB president and CEO Richard Geiger. "Our hope is that national recognition of the wealth of high quality arts experiences available in our comunity may very well help to attact visitors from beyond the region and go a long way toward changing our image."
