Buffalo, NY – A published report says Republicans Joel Giambra and Thomas Reynolds are being considered as potential running mates for Governor George Pataki this fall. According to a New York Post story Thursday, a top political aide to the Governor has discussed the possibility of replacing Lieutenant Governor Mary Donohue on the Republican ticket.
WBFO News asked Erie County Executive Giambra about the report. Giambra says that while it is very flattering to have his name mentioned, he has not had discussions with anyone in Albany about this matter.
"It's all speculation at this time," Giambra said. "It's Albany 'chit-chat.' I don't think it's anything more than that right now. My plans are to get ready and run for re-election soon."
The aide to Governor Pataki, Adam Stoll, is denying the Post report. He says if Pataki decides to run, he would likes Donohue on the ticket.
