Buffalo, NY – Saxophone music like you've never heard before will be featured at a recital Tuesday night. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

Susan Fancher normally plays her soprano sax alongside other members of the Amherst Saxophone Quartet. But she'll open her recital at UB's Slee Hall with two works for unaccompanied Soprano Sax. Then she'll be joined by Flutist Cheryl Gobetti Hoffman and Harpist Sonja Inglefield for the debut performance of two new trios.

See Susan Fancher and friends present an evening of contemporary music Tuesday (2/19) at 8PM in Slee Hall on UB's North Campus.

And there'll be more saxophone music at the Fredonia Opera House as sax players from across the nation gather to throw a 75th birthday party for saxophonist and composer Walter Hartley, a music professor emeritus at SUNY Fredonia. That performance takes place Thursday (2/21) at 8PM.

Also this week, former Buffalo Philharmonic Music Director Semyon Bychkov returns to Kleinhans Music Hall with the WDR Symphony of Cologne. Pianists Katia and Marielle Labeque will be featured in Lutoslawski's Variation on a Theme of Paganini. And the concert closes with Richard Strauss's Ein Heldenleben Thursday (2/21) at 7:30PM The BPO itself presents a pops concert Friday (2/22) at 7:30PM and Saturday (2/23) at 8PM.

Congratulations to the Organist and Choirmaster of Saint Paul's Cathedral, Dale Adelmann on being named the permanent director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus following a nationwide search. He succeeds the late Thomas Swan.

And Dale's Assistant at Saint Paul's, Andrew Kotylo, will be teaming up with organist Tom Trenney for a free half-hour of organ duets Friday at 12:30PM in the Cathedral downtown.

The Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra features the winners of its Senior Concerto competition, Sunday (2/24) at 3PM in the Montante Cultural Center of Canisius College on Main Street.

The Western New York Chorale pays tribute to American Presidents Sunday (2/24) afternoon at 2:30PM in the new Upper West Arts Center at the corner of Richmond and Ferry.

And the Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble presents a fusion of World, Jazz, and New Music Sunday (2/24) at 7PM in the Tralfamadore Cafe downtown.
