Grand Island – Divers resumed their search in the Niagara River Monday morning along West River Road on Grand Island for a car and its 19-year-old driver.
The car was found during the afternoon, but there was no sign of the driver, who is presumed drowned.
The car apparently crashed through a barrier at a high rate of speed early Sunday and plunged into the river. An 18-year-old passenger was able to escape after breaking through the car's sunroof. He then ran to a nearby home to summon help.
Rescuers spent the day Sunday looking for the missing car and driver before suspending the search for the night.
