Power Restored to Nearly All Homes and Businesses

By Mark Wozniak & Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Utility crews continue to make progress in restoring electricity to customers affected by last week's storm. New York State Electric and Gas says all of its customers are back online. As of 8:30pm Tuesday, Niagara Mohawk had restored power to all but a handful of customers.

NiMo spokesman Steve Brady said crews will remain in the field this week to make permanent temporary fixes. He said some customers may experience short-term outages during this work.

At the height of the ice and wind storm on Friday, 80,000 Niagara Mohawk customers were without power. NYSEG estimated its crews had to restore power to 36,000 customers.

Verizon is still working on restoring telephone service to some of its customers. A spokesman says as many as 9,000 customers lost the use of their phones after the storm hit.
