Another huge tourism attraction to the Adirondacks is a victim of the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers of the Empire State Winter Games announced yesterday they’re canceling the event this winter.
The event was scheduled to be held Jan. 28-31.
Games director Molly Mayer said in a press release said the challenges and uncertainty caused by COVID-19 made it impossible to produce events in more than 30 sports safely.
The Empire State Winter Games are annually centered in Lake Placid, with events in Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Paul Smiths. They draw thousands of amateur athletes, coaches, families, support teams and fans to the Adirondacks.
