Sabres legend Hasek elected to Hockey Hall of Fame

File photo

Buffalo Sabres great Dominik Hasek is among six people selected as the Hockey Hall of Fame's Class of 2014. Hasek won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender six times and the Hart Trophy as MVP twice, all with the Sabres. He won the Stanley Cup twice with the Detroit Red Wings, once as a starter and once as a backup, along with an Olympic gold medal in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.

Over 16 NHL seasons, the colorful and popular Czech earned his nickname "The Dominator" by posting a 389-223-95 record, with a career 2.20 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. As expected, he was elected in his first year of eligibility.

Peter Forsberg, Rob Blake, Mike Modano, Pat Burns and Bill McCreary were also elected to the Hall Monday.

The six-man class of 2014 will be inducted Nov. 17.
