The Best of Western New York in 2018 is celebrated in the August issue of Buffalo Spree. In this week's Press Pass with WBFO's Mark Scott, Spree editor Elizabeth Licata touches on several categories. We begin with a discussion of the some of the winners in the food and drink categories.
Buffalo Spree has been compiling its Best of WNY lists for 13 years now. While there are some new categories and trends added this year, there are many names that have been part of these lists for many of the 13 years.
Elizabeth says compiling these lists is a challenge. There are dozens of awards that need to be judged and brief descriptions written for each. Then there are the dazzling photographs, including one this year of the statues high above the Liberty Building.
Named as best columnist was Jerry Sullivan. Ironically, Sullivan's sports column was pulled by the Buffalo News this spring, which resulted in him leaving the paper after nearly 30 years.
The Buffalo Billions Trials and the Frontier House tied for the "Scandal of the Year."
And we humbly note that the WBFO news team received the "Best Broadcast Reporter" award.
Also in the August issue of Buffalo Spree is a listing of the remaining outdoor events this summer. There are still plenty of concerts, plus the Eden Corn Festival, the Erie County Fair and the Lewiston Jazz Festival to name a few.
