Press Pass: Buffalo's vibrant music scene

Buffalo has an incredibly rich music scene. Buffalo Spree editor Elizabeth Licata joins WBFO's Mark Scott on this week's Press Pass to talk about the May music issue.

Elizabeth says her writers introduce us to a number of new contemporary artists, including Tiny Rhymes, Sleepy Hahas and Those Idiots. There's a profile of Marty Boratin, a booker and promoter who once ran a record store and did a rock show on WBFO.

Mark and Elizabeth also touch on the best places to hear music in Buffalo, the rise of free outdoor concerts and cover bands.

Plus, Mark shares a story about why WBFO's iconic rock host Gary Storm was not too happy on November 5, 1979 -- the day Morning Edition went on the air. And Mark tells us of his eternal regret about leaving a house party in the early '80s, a half-hour before a legendary jazz musician stopped by to hang out and jam.
