Higgins: Trump "failed to outline an ambitious agenda" in State of the Union address

With impeachment still hovering, Democratic Congressman Brian Higgins acknowledged the atmosphere was "a little tense" as President Trump delivered his State of the Union in front of Congress. As for the substance of the speech, Higgins says it failed "to rise above what has occurred over the last several months and outline an ambitious agenda and challenge Congress to work with him."

In a Wednesday morning interview with WBFO, Higgins took exception with some of the President's claims.

"He pledged to protect people with pre-existing conditions," which Higgins says is not true.  In a continued effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, "the President has sought to kill the only federal law that protects people with pre-existing conditions."

The speech also trumpeted the growth of the manufacturing economy. "However, the manufacturing economy is in recession," Higgins said.

Higgins also assailed President Trump for attempting to roll back environmental laws and initiatives "which have contributed to the cleanup of the Buffalo River and the revitalization of Buffalo's waterfront."

Rebuilding roads and bridges remains a major talking point for Higgins. Trump has failed on a campaign promise to develop "an ambitious infrastructure bill. We're three years into it and there's no bill."
