Liberal law professor Zephyr Teachout is eligible to challenge Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary on September 9. A Brooklyn judge Monday dismissed an attempt by Cuomo supporters to remove her from the ballot.In an interview with WXXI radio in Rochester Monday afternoon, Teachout said she was confident that she would stay on the ballot.
"I've been living in New York since June 2009. It was just a baseless claim. During the trial, I had to share every one of my leases over the last five years," Teachout said.
"I'm a New Yorker."
The Cuomo supporters had alleged that Teachout did not meet the state's five-year residency requirement to run for governor, saying she had a Vermont driver's license until this spring.
Teachout maintained that she did meet the requirements, thanks to her job at Fordham University since 2009.
It is not known at this point whether the Cuomo supporters will appeal the court decision. The primary is September 9.
