Former television reporter Stefan Mychajliw has been sworn in as Erie County Comptroller. Mychajliw, a Republican who defeated Democrat David Shenk in November, was sworn-in during a brief ceremony Thursday morning downtown in old County Hall. He is vowing to be "independent from all politicians" and says he looks forward to crossing the aisle and working with Democratic County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
"I will gladly put the tape on the knuckles with the county executive and fight for taxpayers but, when I have to hold him accountable, and fellow Republicans for that respect, I will do so in a manner that will make taxpayers proud and show that I am truly independent," Mychajliw said.
With several vacant positions in the Comptroller's Office, Mycjhajliw is vowing to hire "the best and the brightest."
