UPDATE: Ten wounded in six separate shootings in Buffalo this weekend

The first really hot weekend of the summer season  has resulted in a spike in gun violence in Buffalo, certainly the worst such violence seen here since the coronavirus pandemic began.  None of the shooting victims had died. But some are dealing with serious wounds.

Buffalo police are investigating an early morning shooting Sunday that left four men wounded on the city's West Side. It happened just after 3:30am at the foot of West Ferry Street.

TV footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence on the bridge leading to Broderick Park. A police spokesman says the four were struck by gunfire during some type of gathering involving many cars.

They were taken by ambulance to area hospitals. According to police, one of the shooting victims was seriously wounded.

Two more shootings were reported early Sunday. One occurred around 4:30am at Grider and East Ferry Streets. A 30-year-old Buffalo man was shot in the leg. The other one, shortly after midnight, left two men wounded on the 400 block of Guilford Street. One of the victims, a 27-year-old Buffalo man, is in stable condition at ECMC. The other man, age 34 with Buffalo and Depew addresses, was treated for his wounds and released.

Yet another shooting occurred early Saturday evening on Langmeyer Avenue near Delavan and Bailey. Police say a man was struck in the leg. He was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Early Saturday morning, a 22-year-old man was wounded in a shooting on Mortimer Street between Genesee and Sycamore. He's in serious condition at ECMC.

Late Sunday, police spokesman Mike DeGeorge said city police received a notification from the State Police that troopers in Rochester had pulled over an individual who claims to have been shot on Bailey Avenue around 1am. The person is being treated for multiple wounds at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
