The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department had to be called out to rescue 11 lost hikers Monday.
The Sheriff's Department said it happened about 9:30 p.m. A 911 call came in about two adults and nine youngsters who had been lost for about four-and-a-half hours. They were thought to be in an area by a creek near Park Road in the Town of Arkwright.
Responding to the call were the Sheriff's Road Patrol, two Sheriff canines, the Cassadaga Fire Department, State Forest Rangers and the Chautauqua Area Search Team. The Sheriff's Department said one of its canines found the hikers and escorted them out of the wooded area to safety.
Two hikers sustained minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and later transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital.
