A flyover involving four World War II-era airplanes Thursday helped kick off this weekend's air show in Niagara Falls.The vintage warplanes flew out of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station in formation over portions of the Buffalo-Niagara region around noon.
The flight includes a P-51 Mustang fighter plane, a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, an F4U Corsair fighter and a Douglas C-47 transport plane nicknamed "Whiskey 7."
Whiskey 7 is based at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo. The plane dropped American paratroopers behind German lines during the D-Day invasion that began 74 years ago this week.
