Police in Orchard Park are warning residents of a scam involving entry into homes.
Officers say people are impersonating employees of the Erie County Water Authority to get access inside homes and steal valuables. The impersonators claim they are from the New York State Water Authority, an entity that does not exist. The Erie County Water Authority says their employees can be identified by their white vans with blue decals. Furthermore, all employees carry identification badges and do not make unannounced visits. Police tell residents to keep their doors closed if they do not recognize the person outside. A similar scam has been reported in the town of Aurora.
