East Aurora is dealing with a public safety emergency, as a sinkhole opened up on a major roadway because of this weekend's rain.
East Aurora Mayor Allan Kasprzak said the village had just made a temporary repair on the sinkhole in front of Mikey Dee's Cafe and Catering last week. However, he said getting 2 1/2" of rain in a short period of time opened up the temporary stopgap.
Kasprzak said the village does not have the heavy equipment needed to fix the sinkhole, which he said is now an emergency for public safety. However, officials are making arrangements to get the equipment.
The sinkhole is located on Main Street between Willow Street and Hamlin Avenue. Kasprzak says the repair could cost up to $1 million.
