Region braces for strong storms, possible flooding

Photo courtesy of National Weather Service

The weather will be a bit unsettled on this Father's Day. After a partly sunny start to the day, it will become mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms developing.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service say heavy rainfall is expected along with gusty winds in the Southern Tier counties and in areas well east of Buffalo. A Flash Flood Watch will begin at 2:00 for Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Wyoming Counties.

The immediate Buffalo area should escape the worst of the storms though heavy rainfall is possible during the evening hours.

The storms will usher in some cooler temperatures and less humid conditions tomorrow.
