NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace burns rubber around Niagara Square

Chris Caya/WBFO News
Rusty Wallace took a spin around Niagara Square Friday to promote an upcoming Watkins Glen race.

Part of downtown Buffalo was turned into a racetrack Friday with NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace in town to promote an upcoming race at Watkins Glen International. Wallace drove his race car down Delaware Avenue and around Niagara Square. He said he was impressed by his first visit to Buffalo.

"I was just blown away by the architecture and the beauty and the cleanliness of this city. I go to a lot of big cities, but this city is so clean and so sparkling and so exciting and there's so much electricity in it, it's incredible," Wallace said.

During his visit, Wallace also toured New Era Cap Co., where he received a Watkins Glen-branded cap. Mayor Byron Brown proclaimed Friday "Rusty Wallace Day in Buffalo."

The Cheez-It 355 Sprint Cup Series Race takes place the weekend of August 4 at Watkins Glen.
