National media outlets are taking an interest in this weekend's Taste of Buffalo. Drawing attention is a contest where a group of competitive eaters will gather on the steps of City Hall to devour vast quantities of kale.
The kale is "going to be raw," promised Jen Mitri, Chair of the 2016 Taste of Buffalo.
"They're going to mix it with oil and vinegar, make it a nice raw kale salad."
If the thought of power eating a bin of kale doesn't offer appeal, the 62 restaurants appearing at the Taste of Buffalo will have plenty of options. To enjoy as much as possible, Mitri, speaking from experience, advises preparation. It starts with the event guide, available at Tops or viadownload.
"My plan is: I get there. I eat a bunch. I'm full. I walk around. I see a band," Mitri said.
The event guide outlines the many events and vendors that will be on hand to cater to the expected estimated crowd of 450,000. With more summer heat predicted for the weekend, Mitri wants visitors to be aware of the Culinary Stage.
"It's a giant tent. It's shaded. There's seating."
The stage is also conveniently located to another must-visit destination: the WNED-WBFO booth, where favorite public broadcasting personalities will be on hand throughout the weekend.
