It was 4/20 Wednesday, bringing supporters of legalized marijuana out to Delaware Park's Hoyt Lake for a pro-cannabis event.
While some were calling for an expansion of New York State's medical marijuana program, others simply want the drug more readily available for personal use.
"I think that if you are going to try drugs, you are going to try drugs. It's no starter drug," said Ramel Rogers.
"The fact that you're trying anything, I think you're experimenting. This is is the time of your life where you are experimenting. This is something that I have been doing since probably 11."
Some of those at the event made their views very clear by openly smoking something much more noticeable than tobacco.
For others, marijuana is more than a recreational opportunity.
New York has a narrow program for medical marijuana delivered in only one form, as a tincture after a complicated process to get a prescription. One woman attending the rally, Mary Higdon, says she can't get a New York issue.
"It means that I am needing more of my rheumatoid arthritis medication than I was needing previously, when I was able to use it legally in the State of Washington with certification for medical marijuana," Higdon explained.
"It also meant that I could use less pain relievers which included some very low-dose opioids as well as muscle relaxants."
