Presidential politics are continuing to ramp up in Western New York. Today will mark the second visit by a 2016 candidate, as Bernie Sanders hosts his “Future to Believe in Rally” at UB’s Alumni Arena.
In previous elections, New York has been less of a spotlight location, since republicans and democrats have normally chosen their final candidate at this point. But with the state playing a critical role, local “Buffalo for Bernie” supporters are bringing in help to increase Sanders’ chances of success.
“Judging by what’s going on here in Buffalo and I feel it’s going to happen all over the rest of the state, we’re building an incredible ground game," said Lead Organizer Brian Nowak.
As many as 70 people have been pulled in from as far as Michigan to campaign for Sanders in Western New York throughout the week.
"The polls are showing that Bernie is narrowing the deficit quickly, ranging from a 40 to 30 point shortage to a 10 point deficit now,” said Nowak.
With just eight days left to close the gap, Nowak is confident that this week’s face-to-face efforts will be what Sanders needs to succeed in New York.
