Gas prices rising faster in Buffalo

Average retail gasoline prices are rising faster in Buffalo than elsewhere across the country. GasBuddy's daily survey of 472 gas outlets across our area finds that prices have risen 5.6 cents per gallon in the past week and now average $2.12 per gallon. This compares with the national average, which has increased 2.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.06.

Prices in Buffalo still are more than 40 cents per gallon lower than one year ago, but are more than 23 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Americans paid the cheapest quarterly gas prices in 12 years during the first three months of 2016, according to the AAA. Compared to the same period in 2015, Americans have saved nearly $10 billion on gas so far this year.

The national average price of gas during the first quarter was $1.86 per gallon, making it the cheapest quarter for gasoline since January-March 2004. Gas prices are expected to remain relatively low compared to recent years, though average prices could rise another 25 cents per gallon by Memorial Day.
