Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz wants to repeal the County's Ethics Code and start over. Created over the decades, the current code consists of three documents.
"Our proposal is to repeal in its entirety the 1989, 1994 and 2015 law and come up with a brand new complete comprehensive code of ethics," Poloncarz announced.
"Doing so will create one clean version, instead of having multiple versions that have competing provisions."
Poloncarz wants the new code to clearly define conflicts of interest, the type of gifts officials can legally accept, and whether criminal charges can be filed if an official is caught breaking the law.
