All new LED streetlights have been installed in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The nearly $4 million project replaced thousands of old high-pressure sodium streetlights with the LED lights. The new lights require less power.
While there was a significant initial investment, Niagara Falls, Ontario Mayor Jim Diodati says long-term, there will be savings.
"Yes, there's a cost to install the new lighting. But when you offset that with the savings, you get your money back," Diodati said.
Diodati said the new lights are brighter and maintenance free.
The installation was completed on a tight timetable to meet the conditions of a special energy grant that helped fund the light replacement.
