Gasoline prices continue to decline in Western New York, at least for now, as the trend nationwide is for higher prices. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Buffalo fell 1.1 cents last week, according to GasBuddy, to $1.89 a gallon. That's 11.4 cents lower than one month ago, and 64.4 cents lower than one year ago.
Nationally, prices increased 6.8 cents to an average of $1.81 a gallon. In Erie, Pennsylvania, where gas was $1.71 a gallon last week, the average price soared 15 cents to $1.86 a gallon. Prices rose slightly in Syracuse, and fell slightly in Rochester.
GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Will Speer says part of the upward trend was the market pricing in the premium associated with the transition to summer-blend gasoline, but noted "last week's strength in crude futures prices provided no relief for the rising gas prices."
