Buffalo Police exam could produce hundreds of new jobs

Chris Caya WBFO News

A new Buffalo Police exam will be held in just over 90 days and it could lead to a job for hundreds of city residents.

Opportunity is knocking for young people in Buffalo looking for a career in law enforcement. Mayor Byron Brown says, the city is holding a police exam June 18.

"This is a great opportunity for people to change lives and be proud of the work that they do and it is our goal to attract and recruit high-quality diverse candidates that reflect the make up of our city," Brown said Tuesday.

Brown says up to 50 candidates will be hired by year's end and the same exam will be used for hiring another 200 candidates over the next several years.

Starting pay for new officers is just over $50,000. Benefits include health and dental insurance, vacation and sick pay and a retirement plan.

The police exam is open to Buffalo residents between the ages 19 and 35 on the exam date. The deadline to register is May 13. For more information, anyone interested can call 3-1-1.
