For the second time in the lifetimes of many, the American side of Niagara Falls could be turned off.
The Buffalo News is reporting the state parks department wants to stop the water flow heading to the American side so that crews can replace two bridges that provide access to Goat Island. If the plans are finalized, the American falls would be turned off sometime in the next two to three years.
A public meeting on the proposal will be held this Wednesday at the Niagara Falls Conference Center.
The last time this happened was in 1969, when water flow to the American side was turned off so that scientists could study the effects of erosion and the build up of rocks at the base of the falls.
