Catholic Charities launches Appeal 2016

Chris Caya

Find the Good Within. That's the theme of this year's Catholic Charities Appeal.

Diocesan director of Catholic Charities, Sister Mary McCarrick says, needs are increasing among the region's poorest. McCarrick points out that the city of Buffalo's poverty rate is nearly 30 percent.

"So many seniors living on fixed income, SSI $771.00 a month. How could you possibly manage that without assistance from some food pantry, of senior services, of senior housing," McCarrick said.

The Appeal funds 70 programs at dozens of sites across eight counties in Western New York. Last year alone, Catholic Charities assisted nearly 132,000 people of all faiths who were in need.
