Lake effect snow and cold forecast for WNY

Much of Western New York will be hit by lake effect snow Sunday.

Forecasters have dropped the lake snow advisory for the immediate Buffalo area. But there are advisories and a warning elsewhere in the region.

The city and suburbs could still see an inch of new snow. Lake snows well south in ski country could accumulate 6 to 10 inches. A lake effect snow warning continues through 1AM Monday in Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

Plus, lake snow will be developing off Lake Ontario and could bring 4 to 8 inches to Orleans County by Monday afternoon where there is a lake snow advisory from 3pm Sunday through 1pm Monday.

The coldest weather of the season will be moving in briefly. High temperatures Monday will be in the low teens before above average temperatures in the mid 40s return later in the week.

Governor Andrew Cuomo Sunday issued an Executive Order to protect homeless individuals from inclement winter weather where temperatures decline to 32 degrees or below. The order will ensure that homeless individuals are directed to shelter during inclement winter weather which can cause hypothermia, serious injury and death.
