Ellicott Development building plans for Best Street properties

Another project spinning off from the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is working its way through the development process.

Ellicott Development has purchased all the houses in the Saint Paul Mall, off Best near Main Street. The company also owns the former Our Lady of Lourdes church on the same property.

CEO William Paladino says the church is likely to be converted to housing, as was a nearby former church.

"We did that over at 14 North St., on the corner of North Pearl, we took an old church and did that," Paladino explained.

"I assume there will be a residential component to it but to what extent I'm not quite sure. We definitely want the first floor, possibly the second floor to do some commercial or office-type uses also."

The Council had a public hearing Tuesday on the project, including abandoning two short city streets and sent it to the Planning Board to watch over an environmental study. Council President Darius Pridgen praised Ellicott Development for the way it purchased all of the housing, spending years in that process.
