An unimaginable tragedy has struck the same Western New York family twice.
On Sunday morning, 19-year-old Shelby Adamczak died after the car she was reportedly driving left Tonawanda Creek Road and struck a tree. Four passengers were reported to be injured, one seriously, in the crash. The accident happened about 9:30am along Tonawanda Creek near Brauer Road.
This is the second such tragedy in the Adamczak family. In June of 2009, Shelby's older sister, Emily, died of a sudden cardiac arrest while practicing soccer on a town field the last day of her Freshman year of school in Akron.
Following, Emily's death, Shelby's family began working with the American Heart Association to teach local high school students CPR. Their efforts resulted in the State Board of Regents mandating that all high school students across New York learn CPR before graduation.
