Republicans retain majority on Erie County Legislature

Michael Mroziak/wbfo

The Erie County Legislature retained its Republican majority last night, secured when Ted Morton unofficially won his hotly-contested race for re-election in the 8th District.

Erie County GOP chairman Nick Langworthy noted that Morton had to survive a challenge from Democrat Deborah Liegl as well as active calls from County Executive Poloncarz for Morton's ouster:

"Ted Morton has always been about business. He does what's best for his district," Langworthy said.

"That might not fit into the County Executive's world view, but he is certainly out there working very hard for his constituents."

Langworthy says on the whole, the people want a balanced government, and will continue to have that with the Republicans holding on to the Legislature majority.
