Ships that have gone down in waters across New York spanning a 200 year period are detailed in The Great Shipwrecks Exhibit on display now at The Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center.

"We have hundreds, if not thousands, of shipwrecks across New York waters," says New York Sea Grant Recreational Specialist Dave White.

The exhibit includes 10 interpretive panels highlighting shipwrecks in Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain, the Finger Lakes, Lake George and the Saint Lawrence River. It details of more than 12 shipwrecks. The exhibit was originally developed for the 2014 state fair but now travels New York.

"They range in shipwrecks from the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and wrecks that were commerce wrecks of cargo ships and others that really begin to tell the story of the history of New York and really the history of our country," notes White.

The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through January of 2016 at the Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center, 4968 Lake Shore Road Route 5, Hamburg, NY.

Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m.
