There are five drive-thru facilities in the Village of Williamsville. There won't be six under a local law approved unanimously Monday night by the Village Board.
The ban is part of a long-term re-shaping of the village to make it a more walkable community and try to do something about what Mayor Brian Kulpa calls the "legendary" traffic problems.
Trustee Basil Piazza says walking is better for the environment than a drive-thru window.
"It makes eminent sense here in the village to try to control the drive-thrus going forward and hopefully see fewer of them going forward," Piazza said.
"It makes no sense to keep driving around and staying in a car just for a cup of coffee or whatever. It would make more sense to get out and move around."
The village is grappling with several traffic problems, mostly dealing with commuters coming through Williamsville to and from work, even dodging through narrow residential streets to avoid well-known bottlenecks.
