The U.S. Senate has confirmed the nomination of Buffalo Attorney Larry Vilardo as federal court judge in the Western District of New York.
Sen. Charles Schumer recommended Vilardo to President Obama. The president nominated Vilardo for the seat earlier this year.
Vilardo tells WBFO this morning that he is looking forward to getting down to work.
"I'm very honored and grateful to President Obama for appointing me," notes Vilardo. "I'm also very grateful to the Senate for confirming me. Especially to Senator Schumer for all of his hard work on my behalf. Most of all though, I'm anxious to start working to chip away at the backlog of cases in the Western District of New York."
Before Vilardo can be sworn in, President Obama must issue a commission. Once that's done, Vilardo can take his seat on the federal bench.
Vilardo was born and raised in Buffalo. He attended Canisius College and Harvard Law School and is the founding partner of the Buffalo law firm of Connors and Vilardo. He is also been a member of the faculty at Canisius College and SUNY Buffalo.
