Niagara County Sheriff's patrol vehicle involved in fatal crash

WBFO News file photo

One man is dead and a woman injured following a crash involving a Niagara County Sheriff Patrol vehicle last night.

The Sheriff's Office indicates the patrol vehicle collided with another vehicle, reportedly a jeep, at the intersection of North Ridge and Ridge Road in the town of Cambria just after 7pm last night. The deputy involved reportedly had his lights flashing as he headed through the intersection but there's no word on where he was going. The jeep is reported to have rolled over several times.

The driver of the jeep was pronounced dead at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport. A passenger in the jeep was take by Mercy Flight to ECMC with internal injuries. The Deputy was also transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight with non-life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit is looking for another vehicle that was in the area of Route 425 and Route 93 around 7pm last night that yielded to a patrol car with emergency lights activated.  Officials say the driver of that vehicle could be a possible witness in the investigation.
