Campaign encourages locals to recruit events to Buffalo

Visit Buffalo Niagara has created a new campaign called “Bring It Home Buffalo” which focuses on the three Rs. Not reduce, reuse, recycle but rather revitalization, rebirth and resurgence. Bring it Home Buffalo calls on Buffalonians to speak up about the wonders of the Queen City and propose a “destination Buffalo” event. Bring It Home is reaching out to individuals with affiliations to professional, religious, sports and hobby associations.

The city has already seen a dramatic increase in revenue in 2014. Last year, $120 million were produced through more than 170,000 overnight hotel bookings. The conference lineup included the American Association of Airport Executives, the Congress for New Urbanism, and USA Hockey.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says the most important part of the plan is to get people to Buffalo.

“We know every person that comes here stays in a hotel room. We generate revenue as a result of the hotel tax and the sales tax. They go shopping, they go to our restaurants, they have a fun time when they’re here. And if they come here once, I guarantee you they will be back after they see the wonderful things we have here in the Buffalo Niagara Region,” Poloncarz said at a Tuesday news conference.

This week, MedTech is hosting their annual convention at the Buffalo Marriott HarborCenter. MedTech President Jessica Crawford says she has been so impressed, she is bringing the convention back in 2017.

“We are creatively leveraging all that it has to offer. I must say that from the rink to the Lexus Club, the 716 [restaurant], we are using every bit of space here at the HarborCenter,” Crawford said.
