As daylight grows shorter, Downtown Buffalo looks different as county officials Tuesday night unveiled a new lighting system showing off one of the city's most familiar landmarks, Old County Hall.
This latest rehab project has been going on since May of 2012 and its $3 million covered the building outside, from power washing the exterior to replacing many windows, replacing much of the roof which came with the building when built in the 1870s.
Prior projects included building the Family Court building and $100 million on interior County Hall work.
"We have a duty to ensure that these buildings, especially this one, which truly has so much historical significance to the people of Erie County," said County Executive Poloncarz.
"It truly is a beautiful building. It is a location that when people drive by it they kind of look up in awe because it truly is one of those sites that you look at and realize how magnificent it is."
For almost 60 years after the structure was opened, it housed Erie County and City of Buffalo governments, before City Hall opened in 1932. County officials say the clock is so unusual there are only two others like it, both in Europe and soon for the first time in years the bell will start ringing again in the clock tower.
